Not long ago, Kharkiv was a host city for the first regional conference of the ProZ.com professional translators’ international community; the event was held on Sat. 18 – Sun. 19 October 2008. As likely as not, this signal event will stimulate translation industry progress in Ukraine. The participants of the conference were made up of translators, editors, linguists, representatives of translation agencies from many countries. The core issue discussed during conference days was dedicated to putting a translator in the first place in the translation workflow. The topic was covered by various interesting and helpful presentations and reports. In the end of the second day, the participants were involved in the discussion initiated by Henry Dotterer, creator of the ProZ.com portal, who outlined the translation industry perspectives making the final point in the conference.

We do hope that more events such as the Kharkiv regional conference will take place in different Ukrainian cities, touch different topics, and encourage a high degree of professionalism among translators in Ukraine.
